Driver Addendum

Effective: May 21, 2026 · Last updated: May 21, 2026

This Driver Addendum is part of your Terms of Service with Joyride. It applies if you sign up as a Driver, choose a subscription plan, and use the Joyride Platform to provide transportation services. If anything here conflicts with the Terms, this Addendum controls — but only for Drivers and only on the subject it covers.

01Independent contractor

You are an independent contractor. You are not an employee, agent, partner, joint venturer, or franchisee of Joyride. You operate your own transportation business and use the Joyride Platform as a marketplace to find Riders.

That means you decide whether to log in, when to log in, where to drive, how long to drive, which ride requests to accept, and what to charge (subject to the marketplace rules in Section 8). Joyride does not direct, supervise, or control how you provide rides. You are responsible for your own tools, vehicle, fuel, maintenance, insurance, taxes, and any employees or subcontractors you hire (subject to the account-sharing prohibition below).

You are responsible for compliance with all laws applicable to your transportation business — including local licensing, for-hire-vehicle rules, airport rules, traffic laws, and tax laws.

02Eligibility and onboarding

To be approved as a Driver, you must:

  • be at least twenty-one (21) years old, or such higher minimum age as applicable law requires in your jurisdiction;
  • hold a valid, in-state driver's license and meet the age-based driving-history standard in our Driver Screening Policy;
  • pass Joyride's national and local background check and motor-vehicle-record review, and meet the standards in the Driver Screening Policy, and consent to periodic re-checks;
  • provide a Social Security Number or other taxpayer identification number that we can use to satisfy U.S. tax-reporting requirements;
  • complete Joyride's Driver Training & Safety Program and agree to the Distracted Driving Policy;
  • operate a vehicle that meets the requirements in Section 3 and the Vehicle Requirements & Inspection Policy; and
  • maintain the insurance required in Section 4.

Approval as a Driver is at Joyride's discretion. We may decline to onboard you, or deactivate you later, if we determine that approving or continuing your access would expose Joyride or its users to safety, legal, or financial risk.

No account sharing. Your Driver account is for you only. You may not let anyone else log in as you, drive on your account, or accept ride requests on your behalf.

03Vehicle requirements

Whether you use your own vehicle or a Joyride-provided vehicle, the vehicle must meet all requirements in our Vehicle Requirements & Inspection Policy, including that it:

  • be a four-door passenger vehicle that seats at least 4 and no more than 7 people, in good cosmetic and mechanical condition;
  • be less than 10 model years old, hold a current valid registration, and have valid in-state license plates;
  • not be a marked vehicle, a taxi, or a salvaged/branded-title vehicle;
  • if it is your own vehicle, be registered and titled in your name or in the name of a person who has authorized you to use it on the Joyride Platform;
  • have working seat belts for the Driver and every passenger;
  • pass a vehicle inspection before it is driven on the platform and at least once a year thereafter, per the Vehicle Requirements & Inspection Policy;
  • meet all model-year, mileage, vehicle-class, and inspection requirements that Joyride sets from time to time or that local law requires;
  • be free of commercial markings or branding inconsistent with the Joyride service, unless we expressly permit them; and
  • match the make, model, color, and license plate on file in your Driver app.

If you change vehicles, you must update your vehicle profile in the Driver app before driving with the new vehicle.

04Insurance

Joyride does not provide insurance. You are solely responsible for obtaining and maintaining, at your sole expense, all auto-insurance coverage required by applicable law for transportation-network drivers in every state and city where you provide rides. This includes, at a minimum, personal auto-insurance coverage as required by your state's motor-vehicle code, plus any commercial, for-hire, or rideshare-endorsement coverage that local law or your insurer requires when you use a personal vehicle to transport passengers for compensation.

You must keep your coverage in force for the entire time your Joyride Driver account is active, and you must provide proof of valid personal auto insurance to Joyride on request and at least annually. If your coverage lapses, you must stop accepting rides until coverage is restored. Joyride may deactivate your account if we become aware that you are driving without the required coverage.

Joyride-provided vehicles. If you operate a vehicle that Joyride owns or provides, Joyride maintains the commercial and for-hire auto coverage applicable to that vehicle. You remain responsible for driving safely and lawfully, for complying with the terms of that coverage, and for any personal coverage your own circumstances require. Joyride will tell you which coverage applies to a Joyride-provided vehicle.

You must give Joyride and any applicable insurer prompt and cooperative notice of any incident, accident, or claim involving a Joyride ride. You must not settle or admit liability for any covered claim without giving the insurer reasonable opportunity to participate.

05Subscription plans

Drivers pay Joyride for access to the marketplace through a subscription plan. Each plan combines a monthly subscription fee with a per-ride transaction fee. You choose your plan in the Driver app and may switch plans at any time, subject to the rules below. The current plans are:

PlanMonthly subscriptionTransaction fee per ride
Basic$0.0015%
Growth$249.007%
Pro$499.000%

Billing cadence. The monthly subscription fee is charged at the start of each billing cycle. Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by law.

Switching plans. When you switch plans, the new transaction-fee rate applies to all rides completed after the switch. Past rides are billed at the rate that was in effect when those rides completed. The new monthly subscription fee applies to the next billing cycle on or after the switch — we do not prorate or refund the subscription fee for the cycle in which you switch.

Price changes. Joyride may change plan tiers, prices, or transaction-fee percentages from time to time, on at least thirty (30) days' prior notice to active Drivers. Changes apply prospectively only. If you do not accept a price change, your remedy is to switch to a different plan or to close your account before the change takes effect.

06Transaction fees and processing

Transaction fee. Joyride deducts the transaction-fee percentage from each ride based on the plan in effect when the ride completes. The transaction fee is calculated on the ride fare (including any multipliers, but excluding tips, taxes, tolls, and airport surcharges, which are passed through to you or the relevant authority as applicable).

Payment-processing fee. In addition to the transaction fee, Joyride passes through the payment-processor's fee, which is currently $0.30 per ride plus 2.9% of the charged amount. This rate is set by our payment processor (Stripe) and may change if our processor changes its pricing.

Tips. One hundred percent (100%) of tips are paid to you. Tips are not subject to the transaction fee.

Reconciliation. Transaction fees and processing fees are reconciled daily and netted against your ride earnings in your payout. A per-ride breakdown is available in the Driver app.

Commission lock. The transaction-fee rate recorded against a ride is the rate of the plan you were on when the ride completed. Subsequent plan changes do not affect that ride's accounting.

07Payouts

Joyride pays out your net ride earnings — the ride fare plus tips, less transaction fees, processing fees, and any applicable refunds, adjustments, or chargebacks — to the payout account you connect in the Driver app. Payout schedules and minimum amounts are shown in the Driver app and may change with reasonable notice.

You authorize Joyride to deduct from current or future payouts: (a) refunds and adjustments you owe Riders; (b) chargebacks; (c) cleaning, damage, or other fees we charge you for; (d) subscription fees, transaction fees, and processing fees; and (e) any other amount you owe Joyride under these Terms. If deductions exceed your payout balance, you remain responsible for the difference, and we may charge a payment method on file.

08Driver-set rates and the marketplace

Joyride is a marketplace. You set your own rates. You publish a per-minute rate, and Joyride computes the quoted fare for each ride request from your per-minute rate, the estimated transport minutes (from our routing provider), and any applicable multipliers and surcharges, subject to a minimum fare.

You may change your published rates from time to time. Joyride may publish maximum and minimum bounds on per-minute rates, multipliers, and other marketplace mechanics, and may decline to display ride requests where your published rate falls outside those bounds. Joyride may also benchmark rates against publicly available comparable services to help Drivers price competitively — these benchmarks are informational and do not require you to change your rates.

Pickup time is not billed to the Rider. Pickup time is part of your business — it's how proximity self-selects the right Driver for each request.

09Cancellations, no-shows, and rerouting

Cancellations and no-shows are governed by the Cancellation Policy. As a Driver, you receive the Rider-paid cancellation fee (net of transaction and processing fees) when a Rider cancels after the cancellation-grace window has expired or fails to appear at the pickup. If you cancel a ride after accepting it, you may be subject to a Driver-side penalty as described in the Cancellation Policy and the Joyride Platform's match-quality rules.

If a Rider asks to reroute mid-ride — for example, adding a stop or changing the destination — you may, but are not required to, accommodate the change. If you do, the fare is recalculated against the new route, and the recalculated amount is what gets charged.

10Taxes

You are responsible for all taxes and government charges arising from your provision of rides — including federal, state, and local income, self-employment, sales, use, and gross-receipts taxes. Joyride does not withhold income or employment taxes for you. To the extent required by law, Joyride will report your earnings to tax authorities (for example, on IRS Form 1099-NEC or 1099-K) and provide you a copy of the report. You agree to keep your taxpayer information current in the Driver app.

11Driver representations and warranties

By becoming and remaining a Driver, you represent and warrant on a continuing basis that:

  • you meet all eligibility requirements in Section 2;
  • your driver's license is valid and unrestricted in the jurisdictions where you drive;
  • your vehicle meets the requirements in Section 3;
  • you maintain the insurance required by Section 4;
  • you have not been convicted of a disqualifying offense and will promptly notify Joyride if you are charged with or convicted of a disqualifying offense after onboarding;
  • you will comply with all applicable laws while using the Joyride Platform — including traffic, for-hire, accessibility, anti-discrimination, and tax laws;
  • you will not drive while impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs, or any other substance;
  • you will not discriminate against or harass any Rider — see our Anti-Discrimination Policies and Policy Against Sexual Assault, Misconduct, and Harassment; and
  • all information you provide to Joyride is accurate, complete, and current.

12Deactivation

Joyride may suspend or permanently deactivate your Driver account — temporarily or permanently — if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, the Community Guidelines, or any applicable law; if your background check or motor-vehicle record no longer meets our criteria; if your insurance lapses; if a safety incident is reported against you; if a regulator or insurer requires it; or if continued service would expose Joyride or its users to risk.

We try to give you notice and an opportunity to respond before a permanent deactivation, but we may act immediately when we believe urgent action is needed to protect safety or comply with the law. After deactivation, you remain entitled to payouts for rides completed before deactivation, subject to any offsets permitted under Section 7.

13Termination by Driver

You may stop driving at any time and may close your Driver account by emailing drivers@joyride.cool or by following the in-app instructions. Closing your account does not refund the monthly subscription fee for the current billing cycle. After closure, you remain entitled to payouts for rides completed before closure, subject to any offsets permitted under Section 7.

14Survival

Sections of this Addendum that by their nature should survive termination — including those addressing independent-contractor status, taxes, indemnification, and disputes — survive termination of your Driver account.
