Distracted Driving Policy

Effective: July 20, 2026 · Last updated: July 20, 2026

Distraction is one of the leading causes of collisions. Every Driver on the Joyride Platform must follow this Distracted Driving Policy whenever they are operating a vehicle to provide a Joyride ride or are logged in and available to accept ride requests. This policy is part of the Driver Addendum and the Terms of Service.

01Who this applies to

This policy applies to every Driver operating a vehicle on the Joyride Platform — whether the vehicle is the Driver's own vehicle or a Joyride-provided vehicle — at all times the Driver is en route to a pickup, transporting a Rider, or logged in and available to accept ride requests. Following it is a condition of remaining active on the Joyride Platform.

02Passengers in the vehicle

While operating on the Joyride Platform, the only people permitted in the vehicle are:

  • the Rider who requested the ride, and any guests the Rider brings on that ride; and
  • Joyride's own employees or authorized representatives (for example, a safety supervisor or vehicle inspector riding along in an official capacity).

No other non-Rider passengers are allowed. Drivers may not carry friends, family, or other personal passengers while operating on the Joyride Platform. Unauthorized passengers are a safety and insurance violation.

03Mobile phones and devices

When the vehicle is in motion, Drivers must use a hands-free device or Bluetooth technology for any mobile-phone use — including navigation prompts, calls, and interacting with the Joyride Driver app. Drivers may not hold a phone, type, read messages, or manually operate a handheld device while the vehicle is moving.

Mount your phone in a fixed cradle, set your route before you begin driving, and pull over safely and legally if you need to interact with a device by hand. Drivers must comply with all applicable state and local hands-free and distracted-driving laws, which may be stricter than this policy.

04Headphones and earpieces

Drivers are not permitted to wear headphones or earbuds while driving. This includes wired and wireless headphones and any earpiece that covers or occludes both ears. Audio for calls and navigation should play through the vehicle's speakers or a single-ear hands-free device where local law allows. Drivers must be able to hear their surroundings — including sirens, horns, and Rider requests — at all times.

05Other distractions

  • Do not eat, groom, read, or perform any other task that takes your eyes off the road or your hands off the wheel while driving.
  • Do not watch video, play games, or use entertainment apps on any screen while the vehicle is in motion.
  • Set navigation, music, and climate before you start the trip, and adjust them only when safely stopped.
  • If a Rider's behavior is distracting or unsafe, pull over safely and, if necessary, end the ride in accordance with the Community Guidelines.

06Reporting and consequences

Riders and Joyride staff may report distracted-driving concerns through the in-app "report a problem" flow or by emailing support@joyride.cool with the ride ID, date, time, and a description of what happened.

Joyride investigates every report. A confirmed violation of this policy may result in warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent deactivation from the Joyride Platform, depending on severity and history. Violations that endanger a Rider or the public are treated as a zero-tolerance matter and may result in immediate deactivation.
