Vehicle Requirements & Inspection Policy

Effective: July 20, 2026 · Last updated: July 20, 2026

Every vehicle used on the Joyride Platform must meet Joyride's specifications and pass inspection before it carries a Rider — and again every year after that. This policy applies to Driver-owned vehicles and to Joyride-provided vehicles alike. It is part of the Driver Addendum and the Terms of Service.

01Vehicle specifications

Every vehicle used on the Joyride Platform must:

  • Have at least 4 doors;
  • Be able to carry at least 4 but no more than 7 passengers;
  • Be less than 10 model years old;
  • Have valid, in-state license plates;
  • Hold a current, valid registration;
  • Not be marked, a taxi, or a salvaged/branded-title vehicle;
  • Have working seat belts for the Driver and every passenger; and
  • Pass the vehicle inspection described below.

Joyride may set additional or stricter requirements — including make, model, model-year, mileage, and vehicle-class standards — from time to time, and may require compliance with any stricter standard that local law imposes.

02Inspection before approval

Every vehicle must pass a vehicle inspection before it is driven on the Joyride Platform. Joyride will provide or accept a completed inspection performed by a qualified inspector, and keeps a copy of each completed and passed inspection on file. Joyride will provide a copy of any completed inspection to its insurer upon request.

03Inspection checklist

At a minimum, the inspection confirms the good working order of:

  • Brakes (foot and parking)
  • Tires (tread and condition)
  • Steering
  • Windshield and wipers
  • Headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals
  • Seat belts
  • Speedometer
  • Muffler and exhaust system
  • Doors, mirrors, and horn

04Annual re-inspection

Every vehicle on the Joyride Platform must pass a vehicle inspection at least once a year to remain active. A vehicle that fails inspection, or whose inspection has lapsed, may not be used on the platform until it passes a current inspection.

05Joyride fleet standard

In practice, Joyride standardizes its fleet on the Tesla Model Y — a four-door, five-seat vehicle that exceeds the specifications above. Where Joyride operates its own or third-party Model Y vehicles, it performs recurring physical inspections more frequently than the annual minimum and reviews vehicle system logs as part of each inspection. These heightened standards supplement, and do not replace, the minimum requirements in this policy.

06Maintenance and records

Drivers must maintain their vehicle in accordance with their state's vehicle-safety requirements and the manufacturer's recommended service schedule, and must keep the vehicle in safe, roadworthy condition at all times. Joyride retains inspection and maintenance records and may request current records from a Driver at any time. A vehicle that is unsafe or out of compliance may be removed from the platform until the issue is corrected.
